Remembrance Sunday

Remembrance Sunday and the Swimming gala

Well done to all the beavers, cubs and scouts who attended the Remembrance Sunday, the behaviour was fantastic even though it rained.

Well done to all the Beavers who attended the fun swim last Saturday it looked so fun.

A BIG BRAVO to Darfield cubs and scouts who swam in the swimming gala you did us proud ! :D

Cub Update

Since September Darfield Cubs have been undertaking activities to gain a number of badges, including the Chefs badge. Work has been completed on identifying hazards in a kitchen, designing a healthy, and unhealthy plate of food and cooking a two course meal. This was completed on Tuesday, and from the number of empty plates it was definitely a success. Well done Cubs!

Thursday 29 October 2009

Beaver Places

We have a few places available in Beavers at the moment. I will be going into schools over the next couple of weeks to leave information and I have printed some posters to display around the village. If you know of someone who would like to join us or is under six and would like their names putting on the waiting list please let me know as soon as possible.

Beavers Forthcoming Events

We along with schools and other clubs that your children may be involved in have a very busy schedule from now up to the end of the year. To help with organising I have listed our activities on the blog in forthcoming events and will have a printed list available to hand out on Tuesday. We have one or two events that are important to the group and it would be nice to see as good a turnout as last year at both the Remembrance Day and District Carol Service's.
On Tuesday we will be finishing off our Emergency Aid Stage 1 and will be moving on the the Healthy Eating Activity Badge.
We will be going along to Thornhill House on the 15 December for the Beaver Carol Service, they are looking forward to hearing us again and I know that the Beavers really enjoyed performing there last year.
If you have any queries or need further information please see me on Tuesday or give me a call.

Monday 26 October 2009

Halloween

Its Halloween already! Halloween can be an exciting time for many children however all children not matter whether you are the youngest beaver or Bubbly Beavers age :), cub or scout you must make sure that you are safe at Halloween. Always tell an adult were you are going and if you are younger make sure that an adult or responsible person is with you at all times. Stay in well lit areas and never go inside someones house that you don't know unless a parent is with you.
HAVE FUN AND BE SAFE.

Sunday 25 October 2009

Half Term

Just a reminder that there will be no beavers, cubs or scouts through half term and they will begin again on the 3rd November. Thanks and have a great half term from all the leaders at DSG.

This weekend Darfield Beavers joined with friends from Ardsley at a sleepover at Silverwood. We had a fantastic time, the sun shone for us once more and everything ran like clockwork.
I am sure all the Beavers will be having an early night tonight (I know I will).

Darfield Scout Group Autumn Raffle

as part of our fundraising effort this year we are holding a raffle. It will be drawn at a presentation evening in November. First prize will be a large food hamper and there will be many other prizes (details to be given later). Please help by selling your envelopes (£1 each) and returning the money by 10th November.

We pointed out, at our AGM, that our income for last year was not enough to cover our costs and we made a commitment to raise more, much needed, funds for our group this year. Your help in making this raffle a success is most important, if you are able to sell these envelopes to your family and friends it would be much appreciated and rest assured it will directly benefit your child.

If you would like more envelopes please don't hesitate to ask a leader.

We would also be grateful for any donations towards the food hamper such as tins, packets and bottles.

Pictures from wetlands day

On Saturday the Beavers joined with Wombwell and Hoyland for a day at Old Moor, Wetlands. As you can see from the pictures we had a fantastic day. The weather was fine and the staff at Old Moor were excellent, very knowledgeable and extremely patient, a big thank you to Kevin and Cathy. We even managed a spell of pond dipping and I am pleased to report that everyone went home relatively dry. I think this is an activity that we will want to repeat in the future.

Saturday 5 September 2009

I have already heard from some of the Beavers over the summer break and everyone seems to be really looking forward to it. All the Beavers who attend will get their first Nights Away badge, lets hope it will be the first of many.

Wetlands Day 5 September

Time flies, the holidays are nearly over and the time has come for our trip to the Wetlands. This is a district event and we will be joined with Beavers from Ardsley, Hoyland and Wombwell. There are lots activities planned for the day, we just need everyone to keep their fingers (and probably toes) crossed that the weather is kind to us. Winners of the lanes were (children) Devin (100),Stephen and Matthew M. (60), Matthew P. (101), Sam (96), Taylor (114). Everybody played really well and encouraged each other. We had some laughs and cheers, spares and strikes.Even many leaders scored a strike. The meal was good too, well worth the money and to finish it all off we had an icecream. The Cubs and Scouts behaviour was brilliant, WELL DONE.
Akela and Baloo forgot how enjoyable bowling was, we can't wait to go again.
Have a good summer, see you in September.

Group's Annual General Meeting

Our Chairman, John Lowrie, commented that it was great to see some parents taking the trouble to come along to our Annual General Meeting on 30 June. We now have a few more people on our Executive and we can start in earnest to do some much needed fundraising. We have just learnt for instance that our rent to use the Church Hall, will double within the next 6 months.
The reports from the Sections made good listening and it's clear that the Group is thriving. We have some new leaders and helpers and we can now really start to do the activities and events that your child will benefit from. Additional help is always needed and if you feel that you can offer, then speak to one of the Leaders.
Let's work together to make Darfield Scout Group the best in the area.

Saturday 4 July 2009

Badge Night

Well done to Anita '1 night away!!!!'
New Scouts!!!!

Thank you to all the parents and adults who supported our presentation night and well done to all the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts who were rewarded for all their hard work over the last couple of weeks!

Monday 29 June 2009

Beaver Sports Day 2009

Well done to the 17 Beavers who competed and won the team trophy for Darfield in the District Sports Day held at Broomhill on the 28 June. The day was well organised and thanks must go to all the leaders for their hard work on such a hot afternoon and especially the supporters from Wombwell who provided us with much needed refreshments.
Thanks also to all the parents who supported and in some cases competed in the adult horse race (although it was noted that some parents may have cheated). The Beavers were as always well behaved and showed excellent sportsmanship at all times. It is always nice to take the trophy at these events, but more importantly for the leaders it was nice to see such a good turn out, excellent support and the Beavers having such good fun.

Wednesday 24 June 2009

Darfield Scout Group Badge Presentation and AGM

You are invited to come along to a badge Presentation evening and our AGM. This will be held at the Church hall on Tuesday the 30th June, 7pm- 8pm. At the end, we will have some refreshments and this will give you the chance to raise matters that weren't discussed at the formal part of the meeting.

The Badge presentations will show you how your Child is progressing. The AGM will tell you about how the group has preformed over the last year and about our plans for the future for the benefit of your child. It will also be your chance to ask any questions you might have about the running of the Group, for instance, the level of subscriptions.

The Group also needs an Executive committee to help with fund raising and the running of the group. The job is not difficult and the meetings are normally held once a month. If the executive committee is successful, it means that the leaders can step back a bit from having to raise funds for the group and concentrate on providing scouting activities for your children.

We already have a Chair, John Lowrie and a treasurer, Callum Macleod, but we need a Secretary.

The venue is the athletics track behind the Station Inn, off Station Road, Wombwell. Registration is from 1.30pm with events starting at 2.00pm. We expect to finish at approx 4.00pm.

Entry is free, but please bring plenty to drink and a light snack to keep you going. Uniform is not required - wear your sports gear and trainers.

How to Enter

Beaver Story-They made this!

Once upon a time, suddenly there was a lion in the jungle. He was dancing bonkers and he was climbing the trees, after he ate juicy meat and snoccambers James the monkey came along swinging on the trees, Cinderella dancing at the ball with friends. At the jungle James the monkey found another friend. Declan the snake, came slithering to see what James the monkey was up to. The monkey was playing with his friends swinging in the trees, one snake slithered up the tree and pulled James the monkey out of the tree and he landed on Declan the snake and broke his poorly leg. He said what are you doing playing with that other animal. Suddenly a bang, a volcano was erupting. The fire burnt out of the volcano an all the animals ran away. Keegen the lion saved the monkey. Libby the elephant came along and squirted water all over the fire. They all lived happily ever after!

Well done Beavers this will count towards your imagination badge.

Beaver Visit to Barnsley FC

Today the Beavers enjoyed a full guided tour of Barnsley Football Club. The tour included a session in the players gym and an opportunity to practice football chants in the North Stand, a place usually reserved for visiting fans to Oakwell. As you can see from the pictures one footballer has been on a very strict pre season diet. A big thank you must go to BFC and especially to Craig who made the visit both informative and enjoyable.

Are you born between 25th July 93 and 27th July 97? (updated)

Jamboree selections will be coming up and as of now, I know up to only one group of 36 explorers able to attend from South Yorkshire, read the post on 'district explorers' (sidebar) to find out more!

I will probably be hearing more about this from county with in the next couple of months, but my selections camps took place nearly two years before the event.

The next jamboree is to be held in Sweden and lots of fund raising will be needed, as it will cost nearly double the amount of last time!

To find out more about the jamboree its self visit the official site at: http://www.worldscoutjamboree.se/

It will be a fantastic experience and I will personally support any participants in what ever way is possible! : )

I have been contacted by county and nothing has come up yet but 'watch this space'.
